Name: Emma Grenier  Age: Sixteen Nationality: It is unknown where Clara really is from, but her adopted parents raised her in Québec, Canada Profession: Student Marital Status: Single Emma is an introverted person. She rarely socialises with anyone outside of school as she prefers her own company. She lives in a forest so she often spends time sitting on a tree branch and drawing her surroundings/reading. Emma is fascinated about nature and is always keen to explore the rural environment in which she has access to. This makes her environmentally conscious as she believes she is connected to the forest and its species....

Our class's task was to recreate the opening sequence of the film Submarine. We had to do this by casting an actor, find locations, record footage and edit it using Adobe Premier Pro. I worked with one of my classmates on this project, called Abbey Hunter.  Cast Finding someone to play Oliver Tate appeared to be a challenge for me and Abbey, but we were lucky to find someone to fit the role at such short notice. To begin with, Abbey wondered whether she should ask her friend Dan to play the role. However, after some consideration we both...

Filming day 1: Monday 15th February 2015 I wrote about how filming on this day on my 'Filming Review' blog post. As you can see by the photos that were taken on the first day of filming (shown above), me and my cast shared some laughs together, and they enjoyed acting for me. They did not question my directing and easily understood what they wanted to do/say. My actors gave me positive feedback, saying my instructions were easy to follow. I did not get them to learn their lines before hand as I did not feel as though it was necessary for...

In my film opening, my characters will be wearing the following costumes for certain scenes: Scene 1: Phone call scene - Casual clothing Polly: Green Turtleneck top, blue jeans, glasses I feel as though these choice of clothes & colours reflects Polly's persona and her interests and exposes her creative style. The plainness of her overall outfit resembles Polly's innocence and purity, as well as not following the latest fashion trends and being girly.  Millie: T-Shirt, skater skirt, tights Millie's fashion sense is a typical teenager style. This assists the realism of my film opening as I want...

Character casting As my film opening is a thriller/drama, it is based around a serious and realistic concept, that can happen in an area like mine. This means that  the cast members I have asked to audition (shown below) relate to the characters they may be playing - either through how I imagined my characters to look like, or through their comparable personalities. I feel as though this will help them act as their characters better. Therefore, I have based some areas of the characters' personas around their final actors.  Millie Prescott Zoé Desgland  Issy Evans  I feel as though Zoe and Issy would both...

Featured in the video, are the questions we asked 4 students (In order: Yasmin, Josie, Sophie and Ellamae) in our year group and their responses. I told Yasmin and Ellamae my idea for my film opening, and Tommy and Abbey (the other people I was working with to create this video) told Josie and Sophie their film opening idea. To summarise, we gathered and learnt from our audience research that the most popular way of film studios targeting their audiences & attracting them to purchase their films is through the internet and social media. This is because film trailers are often viewed from...

Characters featuring in my 2 minute opening Polly Edwards Age: 18 Profession: Year 13 A Level Student Likes: Polly loves music and often attends many concerts. Recently, she began having guitar lessons.  She also has an eye for creativity and has an interest for all styles of art. Polly is determined to achieve good grades in school and reach her future goals of becoming an album cover artist. Dislikes: Polly hates being lied to and disrespected, therefore she strives to treat people nicely in the first place. She hates social stereotypes and feels strongly about feminism and injustice....

Final Locations For my final locations, It is conducted that I will be using the inside and outside of my friend Charlotte's house (who plays Polly in my film opening) and at the Bird in Hand restaurant in Wreningham.  After I gathered my location research of different pubs/restaurants, I narrowed my options down  to 1 location which I would contact first - the others would be back ups. I thought about the pro's and con's of each location for my film opening. I like the atmosphere of the Robert Kett Pub, but I feel as though it is...

Changes of Script's first draft Added more kisses to Liam's message to Polly. This is so that Liam would perceive a more flirtatious and compassionate character towards Polly. Added two more sentences to Millie's reaction towards Polly's date with Liam - "Aww I've heard of him through another friend, he's nice!". I did this so that it would be more clear to the audience how Millie knows Liam in the first place. Added dialogue of Liam and Polly asking each other how they are feeling, just after they greet each other at Polly's front door Scene 1: On the Phone Polly: Oh,...

Filming Day 1: Monday 15th February 2016 What worked/didn't work well? Overall, filming the phone call and restaurant scenes went well. There was not much that did not work well, except that the tall tripod I borrowed from school was missing its saddle plate and therefore my camera could not be screwed onto it. This did not effect the filming process too much at the beginning as I brought a smaller tripod with me to film on. However, it was not very useful when it came to filming aerial/side profile shots as me holding the camera on the tripod caused it to slightly...

What did you learn during your preliminary task that you want to avoid/implement/develop upon in your actual coursework? I learnt what a shot reverse shot was whilst creating my Preliminary task, and I think it is an easy technique to accomplish within my film opening. Additionally, I feel as though the camera angles my group filmed from in our preliminary task were effective - I would like to expand the variation of camera shots/angles in my coursework. However, there are also tactics I learnt from my preliminary task that I would like to avoid in my coursework. For...

What ways would your target audience ideally be able to consume your film? Ideally, I want my audience to feel surprised when they discover that Millie and Liam both sneakily trick Polly. This is because I aim for my film opening to contain techniques (e.g. plot twists and cliff hangers) that may help me achieve high marks. I am also hoping that the ending of my opening would convince my audience to be intrigued in what happens next after Millie breaks into Polly's house and continue watching the film. I also ideally want my target audience to consume my film opening in a way...

Day 1 Filming: Monday 15th February 2016 Filming at Charlotte's house: 1:30PM - 4:15PM Filming at the Bird in Hand restaurant: 4:30PM - 5:45PM  Scenes filmed/completed: The phone call between Polly and Millie, Polly and Liam's date Organisation:  I attempted to organise a date and time after school the week before, yet it proved to be more of a challenge as my actors had end of term deadlines to meet, as well as meaning I would have a tighter timing schedule to film in. However, choosing monday the 15th the film was not a difficult procedure to organise, as...

For my film opening, I only needed 2 locations - inside/outside a house and in a restaurant. I am using both interior and exterior locations to suit the atmosphere of the scenes and to creature diversity within my opening. Finding a house to film would be rather simple as I would only have to ask one of my female actors if I could film inside two rooms and outside their front door. Finding a back up house location would not be too difficult to find as I am happy to film within my own house. However, to find...
